Prostate Cancer Prevention
There are no proven measures men can take to prevent prostate cancer. However, regular checkups for men over 50 and dietary changes may help reduce the risk.
• Eat a diet low in fat.
• Avoid red meats.
• Eat more soybeans to decrease the amount of testosterone in the blood.
• Eat tomatoes. The lycopenes in tomatoes can slow prostate tumor growth.
• Take supplements of vitamin E and selenium. Both have been shown to slow cancer growth.
Try a healthy diet, watch for symptoms and get regular prostate exams. Early detection and treatment are your best chance for a cure. If prostate cancer is detected early through regular screenings, you may qualify for a new non-invasive treatment called HIFU or high intensity focused ultrasound (visit hifu.ca for more info). HIFU can treat the cancer without surgery, chemotherapy or damaging drugs. So live healthy, eat healthy and get regular checkups.
